The parishes of St Leonard’s, Beaumont and Saint Mary’s, Moze were amalgamated in 1678. Stone from Moze was used to repair the church at Beaumont. In 1659 a stone cross set on a granite block was erected on meadowland on the site of the old church of St Mary’s, Moze. A service is held on this site every year on Rogation Sunday.

Beaumont is a small church with seating for some 120 parishioners and is open every day for private prayer. The fabric was largely restored by the Victorians in the 1850’s. In 1935 Field Marshall Viscount Byng of Vimy, a regular worshipper here, died and as a memorial to him his wife, family and friends completely restored and replaced the kneelers, carpets, curtains and altar frontals in the Church. By the 1980’s the kneelers had to a large extent disintegrated. From then until now they have been replaced by hand stitched kneelers and communion rail cushions created by Mrs Mary Barton of Frinton who played a leading part in Beaumont Church life from 1952 – 1982.

Church

We are part of a United Benefice of three parishes together with Tendring and Little Bentley serving a total population of some 1280 souls. There is a strong bond of fellowship between the three congregations and on many occasions during the year we worship together in each of the three churches in turn.

Our worship is a combination of Common worship, Family Services and Book of Common Prayer. The services are advertised in the Benefice magazine and also on the Church door. The Church is situated on a pleasant rural position in the south west corner of the Parish and provides a perfect location for rest and spiritual refreshment.
